Saudi Arabia and China strengthen tourism ties and investment opportunities

This renewed partnership sets the stage for significant growth in the tourism sectors of both nations

Saudi Arabia and China are taking significant steps to enhance tourism cooperation, boost travel opportunities, and expand investment in the tourism sector. The Saudi Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, met with representatives from the China Chamber of Tourism to promote bilateral collaboration. Discussions centred around investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia’s growing hospitality industry and creating a more tailored experience for Chinese tourists. This is reported by Arab News.

Al-Khateeb emphasised the potential for collaboration, saying, “During my visit to China, I met with Chinese investors and discussed the great potential and investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector and ways for collaboration to elevate the experience of tourists.”

As part of Saudi Arabia's commitment to becoming a premier destination, the Kingdom was granted official Approved Destination Status by China in June 2023. This status facilitates group travel from China to Saudi Arabia, aligning with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to make China the third-largest source market for international tourists. Efforts have been made to expand direct flights and develop specialised tourism products.

Al-Khateeb's visit also involved high-level meetings with Chinese officials, including Sun Yeli, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, and key business leaders from China's travel and entertainment sectors. The meetings highlighted shared values of tradition, family, and hospitality, which form the foundation for Saudi-Chinese cultural ties.

Al-Khateeb expressed optimism for the future of Saudi-Chinese tourism, stating that with this global campaign, Saudi Arabia aims to enhance cooperation with China by forming strategic partnerships to grow the tourism sector in both countries.

This renewed partnership sets the stage for significant growth in the tourism sectors of both nations, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening economic ties.
