TV BRICS to promote Cuba's co-operation with BRICS+ countries in the film industry

The new agreement will facilitate professional exchange between artists from the partner countries

TV BRICS International Media Network and the Cuban Institute of Art and Film Industry (Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos, ICAIC) will work together to promote Latin American cinema. The relevant document on co-operation was signed by Janna Tolstikova, CEO of the media network, and Alexis Triana Hernandez, President of ICAIC. The partners agreed to implement information and educational projects in the field of art and culture, organise creative events, including festival screenings, and promote professional exchange between BRICS+ filmmakers.

The cooperation agreement between TV BRICS and ICAIC was signed during the Russian Film Festival in Cuba, which takes place in Havana from 3 to 7 April 2024 with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

"On behalf of the Cuban Institute of Art and Film Industry, I would like to thank TV BRICS for inviting us to collaborate. This is an important event for us, as we believe in the need for cultural exchange and are convinced of the effectiveness of working together. Each of our countries has a film industry that needs to be promoted and supported. Thank you for your interest in co-operation and I can assure you: we are reliable partners. I am convinced that small steps make big things happen," said Alexis Triana Hernandez.

TV BRICS expressed its intention to become a media partner of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema. The Cuban Institute of Art and Film Industry will hold it for the 45th time in 2024. Media network already supports more than 20 major film festivals in Russia, Brazil, India, China and South Africa.

"Film festivals allow us to present the industry's achievements to connoisseurs, provide opportunities for co-production and international distribution of content. In this way, cooperation between countries is strengthened and interstate dialogue is developed. Cuba has a rich potential in cinema, as well as in music, choreography, art. In partnership with ICAIC, we will promote the achievements of Cuban culture in the BRICS+ arena, utilising our wide network of partners"

Janna Tolstikova CEO of TV BRICS

CEO of TV BRICS also noted that the media network regularly brings documentary projects of its own production and its partners to the international market. For example, in 2024, TV channels in Brazil, South Africa and Mozambique premiered the film "The Golden Coast of the Arctic" about Russian gold miners. Earlier TV BRICS initiated the first international production in the history of the BRICS association: a documentary film "Dostoevsky Intercontinental" was produced with the participation of media companies from five countries.

Today, TV BRICS and Cuba are also co-operating fruitfully at the state level. The official partners of the media network are the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education, the Cuban Ministry of Education, and the Cuban Institute of Information and Social Communication.
