Brazil may postpone deadline for 5G rollout in the Federal District
The Gaispi Group, which is coordinating the rollout of 5G internet in Brazil, has recommended to the Board of Directors of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) that the deadline for launching the technology in metropolitan cities and the Federal District be postponed by two months.
According to the 5G auction notice, the technology must be available in capital cities by 31 July, but if the group's proposal is approved, the deadline will be 29 September. There are no plans to change the schedule in other cities, which defines a gradual deployment until 2029.
Gaispi also noted that the proposal does not necessarily mean postponing the introduction of 5G, but providing additional time to meet the commitments necessary to activate the technology. Anatel said in a statement that Gaispi asked for a delay due to a lack of equipment for "clearing the band" of 3.5GHz, which will be used by 5G.
It is also used to transmit satellite TV signal. To avoid interference, the signal will be moved to a different frequency band and the 3.5 GHz band will only be used for 5G. Kits for receiving the new satellite TV signal will be distributed to the population.
According to the public notice, the "band clearing" is to be completed by 30 June. If the new deadline is approved, the new date will be 29 September. TV CULTURA, a partner of the TV BRICS network, writes about it.
