First doses of bivalent vaccine due in Brazil in early December
Brazil should receive the first batches of the bivalent vaccine against COVID-19 in early December. This forecast was provided by the manufacturer Pfizer, which has signed an agreement with the Brazilian Ministry of Health to supply all available vaccines approved by the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). Information on the number of first deliveries will be available in the coming days.
"The first batches of bivalent vaccine will speed up the fight against the pandemic. This is because they provide protection against more than one strain of the virus," said Brazilian Minister of Health Marcelo Queiroga. Negotiations to deliver the bivalent vaccine to Brazil have been ongoing for at least two months.
According to Anvisa, such immunisations can be used in Brazil as a booster dose in the population over 12 years of age. TV CULTURA, a partner of the TV BRICS network, writes about this.
The Ministry of Health stresses that Brazilians need to take booster doses against coronavirus infection for effective protection. "More than 77 million people have not attended vaccination centres. Studies show that timely immunisation increases protection against severe cases and deaths from COVID-19 by more than five times," said Queiroga.
Recall that a bivalent vaccine is an immuniser that targets two variants of covid at once.
