New method for improving information security is being developed in Russia
Russian scientists have proposed to protect communication channels from hackers by means of quantum teleportation. This was reported by the information service of the Don State Technical University.
"We have developed a module integrated into a cryptographic system that can act as a encryption device to further improve the cryptographic strength of messages and prevent hacking of the system," said Olga Safaryan, professor at the Information Systems Cybersecurity Department.
Quantum cryptography is the science of encryption and transmission of messages using quantum-mechanical objects. The process of sending and receiving information is always done by physical means, such as electrons in an electric current.
The system created by the university centre is based on one of the principles of quantum mechanics, under which it is impossible to create an exact copy of a quantum system without destroying its source.
"Such cloning of quantum mechanical states is impossible because the first state must be destroyed to create the second basis," said Safaryan.
She added that in order to avoid eavesdropping on the communication channel, it is necessary to augment the semantic part of the message with a set of symbols that do not make sense to the hacker, as reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
