Rio de Janeiro hosts the world's largest technology event
The Web Summit, the world's largest technology event, has opened in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro with more than 100 hours of lectures, specialised sessions and networking sessions.
According to the organisers, the event, which runs until Thursday, aims to bring together technology start-ups and potential investors from around the world, as reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
Web Summit provides a space for interaction between market professionals, entrepreneurs, influencers, investors and the general public.
This year's event is expected to attract 20,000 participants, including executives from 750 innovative companies and representatives from 500 funds and investment groups.
Topics for discussion include the professions of the future, data science, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, climate change, the media revolution and technology in the service of education.
The first edition of the Web Summit took place in 2009 in Dublin, Ireland, with around 400 participants.
The 2019 meeting saw a dramatic increase in attendance, with more than 70,000 people from 150 countries attending the event and cementing its status as one of the world's largest networking and content events.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person event has been suspended. In 2020, the Web Summit was held remotely. The online platform attracted more than 100,000 participants.
