Russia and South-East Asian countries will create a joint ESG platform
Russia and member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will create a joint ESG platform for sustainable development. This was announced on Thursday by the chairman of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council Ivan Polyakov following the results of the EAEU-ASEAN business dialogue, which was held as part of the SPIEF.
According to Polyakov, the initiative will be implemented as part of the Year of Scientific and Technical Cooperation between Russia and ASEAN announced in 2022. The platform is expected to be used for implementation of environmental, ecological and climate change projects in the fields of energy, transport, agriculture, forestry and finance.
"For Russia and the EAEU, building cooperation with ASEAN member states is one of the most promising. Trade, economic and investment cooperation between the business communities of the two associations is steadily increasing. This is evidenced by a 34.6% increase in trade turnover between the EAEU and ASEAN countries in 2021 compared to 2020," the Business Council said in its Business Dialogue report.
In particular, total trade reached $23.9 billion, or 2.83% of the EAEU's foreign trade. EAEU exports to ASEAN countries increased by 53.5%, to $10.2bn, and imports from these countries increased by 23.3%, to $13.7bn, fs reported by TASS.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, organised by the Roscongress Foundation, runs from 15 to 18 June. The theme of the forum this year is "New World - New Opportunities". The event also includes SME, Creative Business, Drug Safety, SPIEF Junior and SPIEF Sport Week forums.
