A New Sport Has Been Invented in Russia, International Competition Has Already Been Held
Yaroslavl has hosted the first-ever official open-water sea bike competition. 24 athletes from Russia, Latvia and South Africa participated in it, reports atvbrics.com correspondent with the reference to yarreg.ru.
Two pedals, a handle bar and a frame – that’s how the water bicycle, or sea bike, looks like. Such device enables practically any person to float kilometer distances at a rather high speed – quicker than in finning.
Sea bike was invented by Yaroslavl handymen. The new water bicycle was first presented in 2015 by the head of the Yaroslavl region Dmitry Mironov at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.
"Sea bike has already been recognized by the Russian Underwater Federation as a vehicle and the base for a perspective sport which can declare itself in the nearest future", said the Deputy Prime Minister of the Yaroslavl region Maxim Avdeev.
According to themanufacturers, the invention has interested swimmers in 14 countries. First, it took divers’ attention, and then, school students took an interest in it. As a result, thefirst-ever sea bike school was opened in Yaroslavl!
Yaroslavl competition partici pants were to cross Volga there and back, having overcome a total distance of 1400 meters. Evgeny Ostrovsky from Rybinsk came first, he covered the distance in 15 minutes 4 seconds, the second was Evgeny Habarov, and an athlete from South Africa Daniel Kutzer was the third.
