India wins 9 medals at Asian Wrestling Championships in Kyrgyzstan
The Indian wrestling team performed at the recently concluded Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, winning a total of nine medals. These included four silver and five bronze medals won at the prestigious tournament, which lasted six days and concluded on Tuesday.
The Indian team comprising 30 talented wrestlers competed in various categories including men's freestyle, men's Greco-Roman and women's freestyle disciplines. Ten wrestlers representing the country participated in each category.
In the men's freestyle wrestling event, Udit, the Asian U20 champion, won a silver medal in the 57kg weight category. Besides, Abhimanyu in the 70kg category and Vicky in the 97kg category won bronze medals on the first day of the championship. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
In women's wrestling, 23-year-old Radhika won a silver medal in the 68kg category and Shivanee Pawar won a bronze medal in the 50kg category on Saturday. Anju and Harshita also performed outstandingly by winning silver medals in the 53kg and 72kg categories, respectively. Manisha in the 62kg category and Antim Panghal in the 65kg category also contributed to the medal tally by winning bronze.
At the previous continental championships held in Amman, Indian wrestlers had won a total of 14 medals, including one gold, three silver and ten bronze medals.
