China completes first high-speed railway tunnel beneath Yangtze River

Construction of the Caiyuanba Railway Tunnel, part of the Chongqing–Xiamen High-Speed Railway in China, has been completed. This was reported by People's Daily Online, a TV BRICS partner.

The tunnel has a total length of 11,942 metres. Its construction was carried out under exceptionally challenging geological and engineering conditions, with the route passing through mountainous terrain, urban areas, the Yangtze River channel and busy navigation routes. The project involved a high degree of technical complexity and required exceptionally rigorous engineering solutions and safety standards.

The high-speed railway, of which the tunnel forms a part, will connect central China with the country's south-eastern coast. The completion of the tunnel marks a major milestone towards the full commissioning of the railway line.
