Bolivia and Brazil agree to establish international transport corridor

Bolivia and Brazil are launching joint efforts to establish an international transport corridor. The new route will link eastern Bolivia with western Brazil, opening a new trade corridor between the two countries, Bolivia TV, a TV BRICS partner, reports.

The agreement was reached during a meeting in the Bolivian city of San Ignacio de Velasco, attended by Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz, representatives of the Brazilian authorities and business leaders from both countries.

The first stage of the project will involve technical studies. This will be followed by the construction of a new highway connecting the Chiquitania region in eastern Bolivia with the border crossing at Marfil, providing onwards access to the transport network of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.

The new highway is expected to become part of the Bioceanic Corridor, a major international transport route designed to connect South American countries from east to west, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The corridor will facilitate the transportation of agricultural products, meat, timber and other goods from Bolivia to Brazil and onwards to international markets.

According to President Rodrigo Paz, the Bolivian government is also developing transport projects with Peru, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile in parallel in order to expand the country's export opportunities and open new markets for Bolivian products.
