TV BRICS to provide international media coverage of China's BRICS chairmanship

The partnership between the media network and the Xinhua News Agency is reaching a new level

Ahead of its BRICS chairmanship, the People's Republic of China is strengthening its presence in the global media landscape. The TV BRICS International Media Network and Xinhua News Agency, the state news agency of the People's Republic of China, have announced the expansion of their cooperation in the field of mass communications. The enhanced partnership includes closer cooperation in the creation and distribution of media content, mutual support in covering high-level meetings and state visits, and measures aimed at improving the professional qualifications of media personnel.

During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Media and Think Tank Summit, taking place in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, from 26 to 31 July 2026, the corresponding agreement on expanding the partnership was signed by Janna Tolstikova, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of TV BRICS, and Xi Yanchun, Vice President of Xinhua News Agency. The launch of the new stage of cooperation coincides with the 95th anniversary of Xinhua News Agency.

Xinhua News Agency, the official news agency of the People's Republic of China, was established in 1931. The media organisation covers a broad range of socio-economic topics and publishes content in 15 languages, including Chinese, English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic. Xinhua maintains an extensive network of correspondents across China and internationally and employs nearly 13,000 staff.

Speaking at the summit, Xi Yanchun emphasised that Xinhua News Agency has consistently sought to tell China's story to the world and communicate the country's position to the international community. In her view, the media should play a more active role in explaining the principles of cooperation, helping people from different countries overcome differences and strengthening mutual understanding. Xi Yanchun added that cooperation between media organisations should be based on the principles of fairness, equality, openness, inclusiveness and multilateralism, serving as a bridge for people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Janna Tolstikova, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of TV BRICS, expressed her gratitude to the management and staff of Xinhua News Agency for many years of effective cooperation, mutual trust and their commitment to strengthening professional relations.

"Xinhua News Agency was one of TV BRICS' first partners in China, making this cooperation truly historic. Over the years, our joint work has focused on promoting high-quality journalism, providing objective international coverage of national developments and shaping a constructive BRICS agenda. It is particularly encouraging that, ahead of China's BRICS chairmanship, the partnership between TV BRICS and Xinhua is entering a new stage. Undoubtedly, one of the key priorities of our editorial cooperation in the near future will be covering China's activities in the areas that are central to the BRICS agenda, including the economy, finance, security, education, science, technology, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation"

TV BRICS cooperates with more than a dozen media organisations in China, including China Media Group (CMG), People's Daily Online, Science and Technology Daily, CGTN, China Daily Group, Dongbeiwang, Northeast Asia Today, and the news and analytical portal Guancha.cn. The media network also develops partnerships with Chinese higher education institutions, including Fudan University, Tianjin University of Technology and Education, and Tan Kah Kee High Technology Research Institute.
