New Delhi highlights closer India-Egypt coordination within BRICS and a stronger role for the Global South as India advances its 2026 chairship agenda
India has outlined the priorities of its BRICS 2026 chairship at the India-Egypt BRICS Partnership Conference in Cairo, placing stronger cooperation with Egypt and a greater voice for the Global South at the centre of discussions.
Sripriya Ranganathan, Secretary for Consular, Passport and Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs at India's Ministry of External Affairs, addressed the conference's inaugural session, highlighting the priorities guiding India's work as BRICS chair in 2026.
The discussions underscored the importance of the India-Egypt Strategic Partnership as a foundation for closer coordination within BRICS and for advancing issues of particular importance to developing economies, as reported by ANI, a TV BRICS partner.
The conference, held in Cairo, focused on strengthening bilateral engagement through the BRICS framework and exploring ways to give the Global South a stronger collective voice in international affairs.
Her visit to Egypt also includes a keynote address at the inaugural session of "India-Egypt in BRICS: Towards a Stronger Voice for the Global South", which aims to examine opportunities for deeper cooperation between the two countries within the group.
The engagement comes as India advances its BRICS 2026 agenda, with the chairship providing a platform to promote cooperation among member states and strengthen the representation of developing countries in global decision-making.
The Cairo conference also highlights the growing importance of India-Egypt cooperation within BRICS, linking bilateral ties with wider efforts to promote development priorities and greater coordination across the Global South.
