Presidents of Iran and Russia meet on sidelines of SCO summit in Bishkek

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his support and described relations between the two countries as strategic during their meeting in Bishkek. His remarks were published on the Kremlin’s website.
The leaders met on the final day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan and held detailed discussions on a number of issues.
The Russian president noted that friendly Russian–Iranian relations were developing steadily across all areas, in line with the letter and spirit of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Vladimir Putin also highlighted cooperation in the humanitarian sphere.
Speaking about trade and economic cooperation with Iran, the Russian leader pointed to steady growth, supported by the work of the intergovernmental commission and the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran.
Earlier, the presidents of Iran and Russia, together with the other heads of state of SCO member countries, signed the Bishkek Declaration on the 25th Anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan, marking the organisation’s 25th anniversary, is being held from 31 August to 1 September.
