Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to develop cross-border QR payments
The initiative will enable citizens of both countries to make QR payments and transfer funds between national banking systems

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan plan to introduce cross-border QR payments and transfers between users in the two countries. This was reported by Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.
A key area of the agreement is the mutual acceptance of national QR codes. The initiative will allow Uzbek citizens to pay for goods and services in Kazakhstan using the Kazakh national QR system, while Kazakhstanis will be able to make payments in Uzbekistan through the national UzQR platform.
The parties also intend to develop cross-border money transfers. Under the proposed mechanism, users will be able to send funds through the mobile applications of banks in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to payment cards issued in the other country.
Experts noted that close economic and people-to-people ties between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are increasing demand for convenient payments and transfers between the two countries.
According to experts, the mutual acceptance of national QR codes would allow citizens of both countries to pay for goods and services using familiar methods. The agreement also covers information and technological exchange, as well as the exploration of other areas of cooperation in payment technologies.
Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Deputy National Bank Governor said that the country was developing cross-border payment solutions with 11 states, including China, India, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The launch of cross-border QR payments with China is expected by the end of 2026, while cooperation with other countries will progress in stages.
