Experts propose ways to increase the investment appeal of projects
The New Development Bank (NDB) is ready to become a reliable partner for countries in sustainable development, clean energy, and smart and sustainable infrastructure. NDB President Dilma Rousseff said this at the seminar “The Role of the New Development Bank in Mobilising Private Capital in Member Countries”, according to the bank’s website.
Together with the Ministry of Finance of the Government of India, the NDB held the event with representatives of government authorities, financial institutions, businesses, academia, as well as experts from BRICS countries. The participants discussed practical ways to increase private capital mobilisation for infrastructure development and sustainable development projects. The event took place during the meeting of BRICS finance ministers and central bank governors.
Rousseff stressed that the NDB’s activities are aligned with India’s BRICS Chairship priorities for 2026, which include resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainable development.
The NDB President also noted that mobilising private capital is a strategic priority for the bank. India’s Finance Minister and India’s Governor at the NDB, Nirmala Sitharaman, in turn, highlighted the key role of multilateral development banks in reducing investment risks, increasing the investment appeal of projects and strengthening investor confidence. In her view, it is necessary to establish stable and predictable conditions, as well as reliable long-term mechanisms that will enable greater private-sector participation in BRICS countries.
“The New Development Bank holds a critical role. Its comparative advantage lies not only in financing infrastructure but in strengthening the overall investment ecosystem across member countries,” Nirmala Sitharaman said.
The participants discussed innovative financing instruments, risk-mitigation mechanisms and partnerships for financing technology in national currencies that could make infrastructure projects more attractive to investors.
The New Development Bank was established in 2015 by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It complements the activities of existing multilateral and regional financial institutions aimed at supporting global economic growth and development.
