Oman implements Arab world’s first liquefied hydrogen project
The country aims to become a global exporter of clean energy
Oman is working to establish the world’s first commercial corridor for the export of liquid hydrogen. This was reported by Al Shabiba, a partner of TV BRICS.
Liquid hydrogen is produced by cooling and liquefying hydrogen to a temperature of minus 253°C. As a result, its volume is reduced to approximately 1/800th of its gaseous volume, making it possible to transport it over long distances in specialised tankers.
Liquefied hydrogen is stored in well-insulated double-walled tanks and transported by sea. Upon arrival at its destination, it is converted back into a gaseous state and then fed into local networks for delivery to consumers.
Oman is working to establish a corridor for such transport, which will run from the port of Duqm, located in the Al Wusta Governorate on the Arabian Sea coast. An agreement on the development of the corridor was signed in April 2025.
The project aims to enhance the countries’ energy security and accelerate the achievement of carbon neutrality, as well as to strengthen Oman’s status as a global hub for the production and export of clean energy.
