Oman plans to launch its first national communications satellite into orbit in the first quarter of 2027. The project has now moved into the production phase, according to Al Shabiba, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to a project spokesperson, the satellite will enable the use of modern space technologies to support communications systems, including in remote areas where ground-based infrastructure may face limitations. Satellite communications are also capable of enhancing the resilience and continuity of communications, as well as supporting the operation of government, economic and other vital services.

In the long term, satellite technologies could be used to provide connectivity across large territories and in remote areas.

Furthermore, the implementation of the project is expected to create additional opportunities for Omani specialists and companies and to facilitate their participation in the development of the space sector.

The Omani authorities and representatives of the country’s technology sector view the project as part of a broader effort to develop national capabilities in the space sector.
