Iran and Vietnam seek to expand scientific and academic cooperation
The two countries discussed student exchanges, language programmes and cooperation between science and technology centres

Iran and Vietnam have discussed ways to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation during a meeting in Tehran between Ehsan Ghaboul, Head of the Centre for International Scientific Cooperation at Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, and Nguyen Luong Ngoc, Vietnamese Ambassador to Iran. The talks focused on expanding academic ties, increasing student exchanges and establishing language education programmes, as reported by IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS.
Ghaboul highlighted the strategic importance of enhancing scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. He also reviewed the development of academic relations since 2000 and announced that a draft memorandum of understanding between the science ministries of Iran and Vietnam is being prepared, with the sides expressing readiness to sign it soon.
Language education was also among the key areas discussed. Iran proposed establishing a Persian language chair at a leading Vietnamese university, supported by the appointment of a visiting professor. Vietnam, in turn, put forward a proposal to establish a Vietnamese language chair at one of Iran’s leading universities.
The meeting also addressed opportunities for expanding student exchanges. Ghaboul noted that Iran hosts more than 100,000 international students and proposed allocating 10 annual scholarships for Vietnamese students to study various scientific disciplines at undergraduate and doctoral levels.
The sides further considered connecting Iran’s 58 science and technology centres with their Vietnamese counterparts through virtual and commercial platforms. Iran expressed readiness to share its experience in areas including water management, smart agriculture and food security, according to the source.
