Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin hold talks in New Delhi
The bilateral talks took place on the eve of the 18th BRICS Summit in India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the India-Russia strategic partnership at a meeting at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in New Delhi. This was reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
At the start of the meeting, the Indian Prime Minister presented the Russian leader with a Russian translation of the "Thirukkural", a book written 2,000 years ago in India by the poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar. Upon presenting the gift, Modi said that it encompassed "the entire gamut of human life".
The "Tirukkural" is a classical Tamil text. The work consists of 1,330 couplets (kurals), each comprising two lines. The book serves as a guide to a virtuous life. Scholars from around the world regard the work as a masterpiece of aphoristic literature, notes ANI.
According to the Indian news agency, during the talks, Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin discussed cooperation in key areas, including increasing trade between Russia and India (the countries are aiming for a bilateral trade turnover of US$100 billion by 2030), projects in the fields of energy, critical minerals and agriculture, and the employment of qualified Indian specialists in Russia.
In addition, on the same day, Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin visited the INNOPROM exhibition, organised by the ministries of industry and trade of both countries in the Indian capital.
The 18th BRICS Summit will take place in New Delhi on 12–13 September. The Russian President arrived in India a day before the event to address the plenary session of the annual BRICS Business Forum, which traditionally precedes the summit and serves as an important platform for dialogue among business representatives from the member countries, according to the official website of the Russian President.
