Representatives of BRICS countries to discuss development of port cities at forum in Russia
The first International Port Cities Forum will take place in Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad Region, on 1–2 October 2026

The first International Port Cities Forum will bring together key stakeholders in port operations and maritime logistics, including representatives of government authorities, transport and logistics companies, investors, financial institutions and development institutions from BRICS countries. This was reported by the event organisers. TV BRICS is the international media partner of the forum.
Participants will discuss the development of port cities and maritime logistics, new global shipping routes, transport corridors and international cooperation. The agenda will also focus on transport, energy, the environment, workforce training, financing and investment development.
As Nikolay Patrushev, Aide to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation, noted, it is necessary to connect seaports with other modes of transport and modernise key ports in the Arctic.
“It is necessary to ensure that seaports are connected with rail and road transport, as well as the country's inland waterways. First and foremost, Russia's key Arctic seaports need to be modernised and developed. Given that only one-third of Arctic ports have rail connections, and in view of the projected increase in freight volumes, the transport infrastructure providing access to these ports needs to be developed,” Nikolay Patrushev said.
The forum will be attended by representatives of Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Iran, the UAE, Egypt and Indonesia. The participants will also include heads of major ports in these countries, including Shanghai, Mumbai, Alexandria, Santos and Durban.
The forum programme will include an exhibition, thematic discussions, presentations of innovative solutions in maritime logistics and an intensive business programme for students.
