Ethiopia prepares to integrate artificial intelligence into core curriculum
The country is implementing a roadmap for education development and digitalisation

Ethiopia is preparing to integrate artificial intelligence into the core curriculum. Schools across the country are progressively implementing the provisions of the government's Digital Ethiopia 2030 programme. As noted by Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, a TV BRICS partner, the full implementation of the planned reforms will require consistent and concerted efforts at all levels of society.
The government is overseeing the development of infrastructure and digital projects, while teachers and heads of educational institutions are expected to implement the new roadmap.
As part of the roadmap for education and vocational training development, an official competency assessment system was adopted. One of the most significant changes was the restructuring of the national examination system, which made it possible to begin encouraging students' independence.
Under the five-year Digital Ethiopia 2025 government programme, secondary schools across the country were equipped with computer laboratories and connected to the internet. Similar transformations are also taking place in the higher education sector.
Almost 27 million people are enrolled in Ethiopia's general education system, while more than 828,000 students attend higher education institutions.
