Kazakhstani citizens plant more than 38,000 trees and shrubs during environmental campaign
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev joins environmental activists
In Kazakhstan, participants in the annual environmental campaign planted over 38,000 trees and shrubs. This year, more than 513,000 citizens took part in the campaign. This was reported by Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS, citing the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan.
The event took place as part of the nationwide environmental initiative "Taza Qazaqstan" ("Clean Kazakhstan") and brought the country’s residents together. The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, joined youth representatives and environmental activists in planting trees in the Presidential Park.
"For me, young people who support such noble endeavours are true patriots. Indeed, genuine love for one’s homeland and native region always begins with small things – with caring for one’s own home, village and town. It is no coincidence that a popular proverb says, 'If you fell one tree, plant ten.' Caring for nature and treating the environment with respect – these noble qualities are an integral part of our nation’s way of life," the Head of State told citizens; the President’s words are quoted on the official website.
The campaign brought together over 140,000 representatives of state bodies and 82,000 volunteers. Schoolchildren and students, youth organisations, businesses, community groups and residents of the regions also took an active part. Across the country, they cleared rubbish from parks and public spaces, woodland areas, the banks of rivers and lakes, and the outskirts of towns and villages. As a result, around 6,000 hectares of land were tidied up, and over 12,000 tonnes of waste were collected.
According to Alibek Kuantyrov, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, over the years since the launch of the "Taza Qazaqstan" initiative, more than 2,000 environmental events have been held across the country, during which over 3.8 million tonnes of waste have been collected and around 10,000 rubbish dumps have been cleared. The nationwide environmental campaign was launched in 2024.
