Egypt to introduce electronic notifications for court cases from 1 October
On the same day, Egypt’s new Code of Criminal Procedure will come into force

Egypt’s Minister of Justice, Mahmoud Helmy El-Sherif, has signed a decree establishing special centres within courts of first instance to send court notifications by telephone and electronically. This was reported by Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.
The centres will not only send notifications but also verify their delivery. Information regarding the sending and receipt of notifications will be automatically recorded in an electronic system. A judge will oversee the operations of each centre.
To send notifications, the centres will be able to obtain the recipient’s national identification number and mobile phone number from the state civil registry. In doing so, the data must be used in compliance with confidentiality and personal data protection requirements.
Notifications will be sent to the contact details provided by the party to the proceedings or to the details held in the state register. The notification will contain information about the court case, its subject matter and the recipient’s status, as well as details of the court and the bailiff. In addition, the party will be informed of the date and venue of the upcoming hearing.
