Russian President meets with head of New Development Bank in New Delhi

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Dilma Rousseff, President of the New Development Bank (NDB), on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. This was reported on the official website of the Russian President.

Vladimir Putin noted that the New Development Bank is making a significant contribution to the development of BRICS.

"We advocate the involvement of as many participants as possible in its work and for its programmes to be broader in scope – covering a greater number of economic sectors within the BRICS member countries," Putin said.

The Russian President paid particular attention to proposals relating to the creation of new platforms – both investment and digital – which would expand the New Development Bank’s capabilities and make them more versatile.

Putin expressed his gratitude to Rousseff for their collaboration and his hope that the agreements reached would be implemented, as well as for the search for new mechanisms to revitalise the bank’s activities.

For her part, Dilma Rousseff stated that Russia’s participation in the New Development Bank is of great importance for strengthening the Global South and BRICS.

On the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, Vladimir Putin also held a series of bilateral meetings with the leaders of the group’s member states.

During talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the parties discussed the implementation of key joint projects in the energy, trade, investment, and food sectors, in particular the construction of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant and the establishment of a Russian industrial zone within the Suez Canal economic zone. El-Sisi emphasised Egypt’s readiness to remove any potential obstacles to the implementation of joint projects and welcomed the Russian authorities’ approval of the airports in Alexandria and El Alamein for receiving Russian tourists, reports MENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin also met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Putin noted that relations between the two countries are developing successfully: political and inter-parliamentary contacts are growing, cooperation in the humanitarian sphere is developing, and trade turnover is gradually increasing. Ramaphosa, for his part, highlighted the strengthening of bilateral ties and stated that trade volumes could be increased and trade expanded across various sectors. Putin also invited the South African President to the Russia–Africa Summit, which will take place in Moscow on 28–29 October.

In addition, the Russian President met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The two sides discussed cooperation in the fields of energy, education, science, technology, and tourism. Anwar Ibrahim also stated that Malaysia is looking forward to the imminent launch of direct flights to Russia. In 2027, Russia and Malaysia will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
