Kyrgyzstan records fastest economic growth in Central Asia
The country’s economy expanded by 11.1 per cent in January–July 2026, supported by investment and strong domestic demand
Kyrgyzstan recorded the fastest pace of economic growth among Central Asian countries in the first seven months of 2026, with GDP increasing by 11.1 per cent year on year. The figure was reported in a new macroeconomic review by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).
The country’s growth rate exceeded those of other major economies in the region. Uzbekistan’s economy expanded by 8.5 per cent in the first half of the year, while Tajikistan recorded growth of 8.2 per cent, and Kazakhstan saw its economy increase by 4.1 per cent, as reported by Akchabar, a partner of TV BRICS.
Investment has been one of the main contributors to Kyrgyzstan’s economic expansion. Fixed capital investment rose by 58.8 per cent year on year, with the EDB noting that government programmes have supported activity in industries including manufacturing, construction, and transport.
Across Central Asia, economic growth reached 6 per cent in the first half of 2026. The EDB expects Kyrgyzstan to maintain its position as the region’s fastest-growing economy over the full year, while monetary policy remains focused on maintaining economic stability.
