Zimbabwe and Malaysia to expand media cooperation through technology and skills exchange

Zimbabwe and Malaysia are preparing a new phase of cooperation in the media sector through a series of agreements focused on broadcasting development, technology exchange and professional training, as reported by Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), a TV BRICS partner.

The planned Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) follow a benchmarking visit by a delegation from Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services to Malaysia, where officials explored opportunities for knowledge sharing and cooperation aimed at advancing the country’s media industry.

During the visit, Zimbabwean representatives studied Malaysia’s approaches to broadcasting systems, digital innovation and media training, with discussions centred on adapting international experience to support the modernisation of Zimbabwe’s information sector.

Nick Mangwana, Permanent Secretary of Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, said the initiative was designed to strengthen bilateral ties and identify areas where both countries can benefit from closer cooperation.

“The purpose of our visit is to deepen the bilateral relationship between our countries and widen it. We are fraternal partners in South-South cooperation. We believe there is a lot we can learn from each other and many synergies we can build,” he said.

The discussions also highlighted the growing importance of combining media development with advances in science and technology, including artificial intelligence, engineering and digital skills.

Education links between Zimbabwe and Malaysia were also recognised as an important foundation for future cooperation, with Zimbabwean students gaining experience in areas connected to emerging technologies.
