UAE chess team claims 18 victories in opening round of Youth Arab Championship

The United Arab Emirates has made an impressive start to the Youth Arab and Junior Chess Championship after securing 18 victories in the opening round of the regional competition currently taking place in Cairo, as reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a TV BRICS partner.

The championship has brought together more than 400 players representing 18 Arab nations, with competition spanning multiple age categories from under-eight to under-20. The UAE has entered one of its largest delegations, with 58 young players competing across the tournament.

The opening day delivered a series of performances, particularly in the under-20 division, where Emirati competitors recorded victories against both domestic teammates and international opponents. Success continued across the under-18, under-16 and under-14 categories, with several players earning full points to strengthen the country's early position in the standings.

The UAE also enjoyed a productive opening round in the younger age groups. Competitors in the under-12 and under-10 divisions collected multiple wins, while the girls' events produced further victories that highlighted the depth of the nation's emerging chess talent. The under-eight category concluded with two additional successes.

The Youth Arab and Junior Chess Championship continues in Cairo until 5 August, with participants competing for titles across multiple age divisions.
