Largest sustainable plantation in the world is recognised in Saudi Arabia

Tamriyat Station, located in Saudi Arabia and managed by the National Centre for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC), has been recognised as the largest sustainable plantation in the world.

The facility, which covers more than 20,000 hectares and has 100 fields for growing 11 plant species, functions as a centre for experimentation and seed production, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The recognition was awarded during the International Exhibition and Forum on Afforestation Techniques and the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) with the confirmation of an international organisation recognising the status.

The station uses modern and sustainable technologies such as crescent-shaped drilling equipment that retains water, irrigation systems with treated water and specialised equipment for soil preparation and seeding. Tamriyat fields are currently growing more than 466,000 bushes with a daily supply of 1,200 cubic metres of water.

The project reinforces the country's commitment to conserving natural resources and protecting the environment, positioning Tamriyat Station as a global model of sustainable development.
