Russian Foreign Minister has held a telephone conversation with his South African counterpart
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has had a telephone conversation with his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor, as reported on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The main topic of discussion was the development of bilateral trade and the strengthening of economic relations in general. During the talks, Lavrov and Pandor also addressed issues of expanding cooperation within the UN, BRICS and other international platforms.
Moscow and Pretoria have been cooperating in various areas for many years. For example, the states are establishing ties in the field of higher education. More than 600 citizens of South Africa currently study in Russian universities, including their foreign branches.
In May of this year, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) agreed to further deepen and broaden co-operation within the union and to act in solidarity to face new global and regional challenges.
