Russian House in Chennai discusses women's empowerment
Russian House in Chennai, India, hosted a seminar on "Women's Empowerment" attended by Russian and Indian experts. The event was organised with the assistance of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women.
Inaugurating the seminar, Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women, Chairperson A.S.Kumari spoke about the projects being undertaken by the local government in the field of women entrepreneurship development.
In a special video address to the audience, Svetlana Kukava, editor-in-chief of TV BRICS pointed out the importance of women's entrepreneurship for the growth of people's welfare and building the foundation of an equal society.

According to the editor-in-chief, women's entrepreneurship is an untapped source of growth, prosperity and poverty reduction, as well as the key to creating more just societies.
"We genuinely believe that commitment and bold action are needed to accelerate progress, including through the promotion of activities and projects that advance gender equality. And TV BRICS Media Network dedicates its work to the further promotion of this topic," she concluded.
Gennady Rogalyov, Director of the Russian House in Chennai, shared information on Russian government programmes to protect women's rights.
The event included speeches of women who achieved success in business, medicine, science and representatives of local NGOs dealing with protection of rights and support of women from socially disadvantaged families. In their speeches, the speakers touched upon pressing issues and suggested ways to improve the status and position of women in Tamil Nadu.
