Malaysia's role in BRICS
Malaysia cooperates closely with the BRICS countries in the economic sector. For example, China has been the country's largest trading partner since 2009 and accounts for 17.1 per cent of Malaysia's total foreign trade. About one third of the world's oil supplies pass through the Strait of Malacca.

Malaysia's culture
Malaysia is a multi-ethnic country with a rich cultural heritage. The ethnic diversity represented by Malays, Chinese, Indians and indigenous peoples is reflected in customs, cuisine, and arts. Malaysia celebrates Chinese New Year, Indian Diwali, Islamic Hari Raya Puasa, and Catholic Christmas. In this state there is a tradition of "open house", when people of different nationalities and confessions are invited for joint celebration.
Among the architectural monuments of Malaysia are the ancient cities of Melaka and George Town, as well as Kinabalu Park, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The country's arts include joget and zapin dancing, wood carving and the traditional shadow theatre of Wayang Kulit.

The Federation of Malaysia is a member of the United Nations (UN), Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
