Dubai begins trial run of advanced electric bus with next-gen features

Dubai has initiated a pilot programme for a state electric bus along a key metro-linked route, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban mobility. 

The zero-emission vehicle boasts groundbreaking innovations, including high-definition digital camera systems that eliminate the need for traditional mirrors and a heads-up display that projects critical driving data onto the windscreen for enhanced safety. 

Designed to withstand the region’s climate, the bus features a top-tier cooling system and a high-capacity 470 kWh battery, which is the largest ever used in an electric bus tested locally.

Experts note that with a single charge, the 12-metre bus can cover up to 370 kilometres while accommodating 76 passengers. The trial aims to evaluate real-world performance, including energy efficiency, emission reductions, and adaptability to Dubai’s extreme summer temperatures, as reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

The trial will gather crucial data to refine future electric bus designs, prioritising passenger comfort, operational reliability, and environmental impact. The initiative aligns with broader goals to transition public transportation to fully emission-free systems by 2050, supporting the city’s vision for smarter, greener mobility.
