Egypt has set a goal to attract 30 million tourists annually, as President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reaffirmed the country’s commitment to accelerating the development of its tourism sector.

According to Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS, the announcement came during a high-level meeting in Cairo with senior officials and international representatives.

El-Sisi emphasised that expanding tourism remains a national priority, with a focus on enhancing infrastructure, increasing investment and strengthening Egypt’s position as a leading global destination. He noted that hosting major international tourism events reflects growing international confidence in Egypt’s capabilities and readiness to support further global initiatives.

According to Egypt’s Presidency, cooperation with the global tourism body is expected to play a key role in promoting sustainable sector growth and boosting international visitor flows.

During the meeting, representatives of the organisation confirmed plans to hold a major international event in Egypt, bringing together around 270 global tourism leaders. The initiative will include a maritime route passing through several Egyptian cities and ports, highlighting the country’s strategic location and diverse tourism assets.

Participants described the event as a strong signal of confidence in Egypt’s tourism potential, citing the country’s stability, expanding infrastructure and continued efforts to attract investment. Egypt remains one of the most sought-after destinations globally, they noted.

The delegation also expressed interest in deepening cooperation with the Egyptian government in tourism development and investment, particularly in modernising infrastructure and improving visitor experience.

Experts note that achieving the 30 million visitor target would mark a significant milestone for Egypt’s economy, strengthening its role as a major tourism hub in the Middle East and globally.

As part of efforts to revitalise global travel and develop infrastructure, the BRICS countries and their partner nations are witnessing a growing trend in tourism aimed at attracting visitors and facilitating cross-border tourist flows.

In Indonesia, the tourism sector recorded strong growth in March 2026, with the country welcoming 1.09 million foreign visitors – a 10.5 per cent increase compared to March 2025 – bringing the total number of international arrivals in the first quarter to 3.44 million, the highest level since 2020, according to ANTARA. This international growth coincided with a notable expansion in domestic tourism, which recorded well over 319 million trips in March alone, an increase of 13.14 per cent.

In terms of bilateral cooperation, Kazakhstan and Russia intend to streamline tourism procedures in the areas surrounding Mount Belukha, the main destination for mountain tourism, to strengthen cooperation between border regions and support tourism. The Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sport is developing this initiative, which covers the areas adjacent to the mountain located within the Altai mountain range on the border between the two countries. The mountain is the highest peak in Siberia and a natural site listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as reported by Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.

In a related development, the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, hosted an extensive tourism promotion programme showcasing China’s cultural and tourism potential as part of a comprehensive effort to deepen engagement within the Vietnam–China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026–2027, reports Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a TV BRICS partner. Officials believe there is enormous untapped potential for further expansion, given the populations of over 100 million in Vietnam and 1.4 billion in China, where enhanced cooperation and targeted promotion will play a key role in achieving higher growth rates in bilateral tourism flows.
