Ethiopia expands industrial and renewable energy capacity with new Hawassa facilities
New production sites reinforce the country’s strategy to scale up clean energy and industrial output
Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed has inaugurated four major industrial and energy facilities at Hawassa Industrial Park, marking further progress in Ethiopia’s efforts to strengthen manufacturing and renewable energy generation, as reported by Fana Media Corporation, a partner of TV BRICS.
The newly opened sites include three solar manufacturing facilities alongside a plant dedicated to the production of industrial gases.
According to the Prime Minister, the solar facilities are expected to generate a combined 11.3 gigawatts of clean energy annually.
In addition, the industrial gas facility will produce 900 tonnes of oxygen, 40,000 tonnes of nitrogen, and 7 tonnes of hydrogen per year. The output is expected to support a range of industrial processes, strengthening supply chains and enabling further growth across key sectors.
The projects have also created new employment opportunities, contributing to local economic development and workforce engagement. Abiy Ahmed emphasised that while the newly launched facilities represent substantial progress, Ethiopia retains significant potential for continued expansion in both industrial production and energy development.
