India and Indonesia to deepen strategic partnership across Indo-Pacific
Prime Minister Narendra Modi presents a five-point roadmap in Jakarta to expand cooperation in maritime connectivity, economic development and Global South engagement
India and Indonesia have outlined a new long-term framework for bilateral cooperation after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the Ganga–Mahakam Vision, a five-point roadmap aimed at strengthening strategic, economic and cultural ties between the two countries, as reported by ANI, a TV BRICS partner.
Speaking at a joint sitting of the Indonesian Parliament during his state visit, Modi said the initiative builds on centuries of historical links and is designed to guide cooperation towards greater prosperity and sustainable development for future generations.
The proposed framework focuses on five strategic pillars: strengthening civilisational ties, advancing shared economic development, expanding maritime connectivity and prosperity, and reinforcing the role of India and Indonesia as leading voices of the Global South.
As part of the initiative, India proposed launching an India–Indonesia Civilisational Dialogue to promote historical, cultural and educational exchanges while enhancing people-to-people connections between the two nations.
Economic cooperation also features prominently in the roadmap. Both countries aim to deepen collaboration across trade, investment and development, positioning their partnership to support long-term economic growth.
The roadmap also places significant emphasis on international cooperation through the Global South. India and Indonesia pledged to work together in support of a more inclusive international order, advocating broader access to technology, sustainable development and reforms to global governance institutions to better reflect the interests of emerging economies.
