India Is Going to Get Access to Arctic Resources through the North-South ITC
Ambassador of India to Russia D. B. Venkatesh Varma, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Forum "Arctic: Today and the Future", told about the new direction of cooperation with Russia, interesting to India. The people of India consider the possibility of access to the Arctic regions rich with resources. The way to this access runs along the International North–South Transport Corridor, reports the tvbrics.com correspondent with a reference to tass.ru.
“We examine a possibility of establishment of communication between the Arctic region and the North-South ITC”, said the Indian ambassador. “We count on cooperation with Russia in the Arctic Council and actively discuss the potential directions of cooperation, including that in the sphere of energy security, scientific research and transport communications.”
According to the Ambassador, at the moment, India discusses the cooperation concerning the Northern Sea Route with Russia. Besides, India is interested in joint projects in energetics and mineral extraction in the Arctic region.
