Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand strengthen regional ties within IMT-GT framework

Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand have reaffirmed their dedication to advancing the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) as a key approach to bolstering regional resilience and digital transformation.

Thailand’s Director-General of the Department of Information at the Foreign Ministry, Nikorndej Balankura, told Bernama News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS, that ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the IMT-GT during the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kuala Lumpur. He noted that the participating countries underscored the need to strengthen political, economic, and trade cooperation within the sub-regional framework.

Digital transformation is a growing focus, supported by the IMT-GT Implementation Blueprint 2022–2026. Efforts are being directed toward developing economic corridors, enabling digital trade, facilitating data sharing, and promoting cross-border digital payments.

"Digital connectivity is a newer focus, and addressing physical, legal, and digital connectivity would greatly boost investment, trade, and people-to-people ties, including data flow,” he said.

Balankura also stressed that IMT-GT integration remains a priority, particularly through improved regional connectivity. Projects such as road and rail linkages, alongside harmonised legal frameworks for the movement of goods and people, are essential for ensuring progress.
