Indonesia to grow sugar palms for bioethanol production

This will help reduce dependence on imported fuel

Indonesia is planning to expand sugar palm plantations to increase the production of bioethanol, which is essential for achieving energy stability. The announcement was made by the country's Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni at a meeting with farmers, as reported by Antara.

“This (bioethanol) is a highly promising renewable energy source, and we possess vast agricultural land ideal for sugar palm cultivation,” he said.

The Minister stressed that the country's President Prabowo Subianto has mandated the planting of sugar palm trees on 1.2 million hectares. For 2025, 300,000 hectares are already scheduled to be developed.

Antoni explained that each hectare of sugar palm plantation can produce up to 24,000 kilolitres of bioethanol.
