Presidents of Brazil and China hold telephone conversation

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation lasting more than an hour. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the strategic partnership and strengthening coordination on international issues. This was reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

During the talks, the parties discussed aligning the national development strategies of Brazil and China. The main topics included cooperation in artificial intelligence, satellite technologies, energy, as well as collaboration in the mining sector, including the processing of critical minerals and the expansion of fertiliser trade.

Xi Jinping highlighted the positive progress achieved in building a China–Brazil community with a shared future. According to him, this contributes to economic growth, improved public well-being and greater stability.

Lula da Silva stated that Brazil is interested in expanding Chinese investment. He invited Chinese companies to participate more actively in projects across the country to diversify cooperation and achieve new practical results.

According to the Brazilian President, bilateral trade has reached a new record high. The Presidents supported accelerating negotiations on an agreement between MERCOSUR (the Southern Common Market of South American countries) and China, taking into account the necessary concessions for the South American bloc.

It was noted that the Brazil–China Year of Culture and the agreement on visa-free travel for short-term visits have also contributed to strengthening ties between the peoples of the two countries.

The Brazilian President congratulated China on the successful hosting of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference. He highly praised Xi Jinping’s approach to open and inclusive international cooperation and global governance in the field of artificial intelligence.

The leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation within the United Nations (UN), BRICS and other international organisations. Xi Jinping called for promoting the high-quality development of cooperation within BRICS, preserving the bloc’s unity and achieving new practical outcomes.

China highly values Brazil’s international standing and influence, the Chinese President stressed. He reaffirmed China’s support for Brazil’s sovereignty, independence and contribution to strengthening regional and global peace and stability.
