International forum in Russia's Kalmykia to discuss development of Buddhism and tourism

The organisers have prepared over 50 events for participants

III International Buddhist Forum will be held in the capital of Kalmykia, Elista, from 25 to 28 September and will bring together guests from almost 35 countries. Delegations from Brazil, China, India, Nepal, Myanmar, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and other countries have already confirmed their participation. The Buddhist regions of Russia – Buryatia and Tuva – will also join the event. TV BRICS is the international media partner of the event.

The forum is a platform for strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties. As noted by the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, Batu Khasikov, the event contributes to strengthening Russia's position on the world stage.

"For Kalmykia, the forum is an opportunity to contribute to strengthening the country's international authority. I am glad that all Buddhist regions have joined the work, and the results are already evident. It is important to emphasise that Russia is a multinational and multi-confessional country that unites a huge number of peoples. We are proud of this," he added.

On 26-27 September, experts, researchers and spiritual leaders will discuss current challenges in panel discussions. The programme includes issues related to the development of traditional medicine and Buddhism in Russia.

A separate section will be devoted to economics. Participants in the discussion "The Influence of Buddhist Values on the Choice of Economic Priorities" will consider the points of intersection between ancient teachings and modern models of development. Another session will be devoted to the role of Buddhist heritage in increasing the attractiveness of domestic and international tourism.

Guests can look forward to a rich cultural programme, where they will be able to learn about the traditions of Buddhist peoples. The central events will be an exhibition of sacred relics from the National Museum of India and an exhibition of Kalmyk masterpieces from leading museums in St. Petersburg. The forum will conclude with an international martial arts festival and the national holiday "Jangariada".

The organisers emphasise that the aim of the forum is to form a common vision for the development of Buddhism in the new millennium and to clearly demonstrate that Buddhism is an integral part of Russian and world culture.
