Iran is in process of developing vaccine for leishmaniasis

President of the Pasteur Institute of Iran, Rahim Sarvari, has announced work on a vaccine for leishmaniasis. Since the parasite (Leishmania) is changeable, the development of a vaccine requires in-depth research. “The process has gone through several phases, and the results will be announced soon”, he said.

Leishmaniasis is one of the most common protozoal diseases, which is caused by different species of unicellular parasites of the genus Leishmania.

Iran has also launched a national programme to vaccinate children against pneumococcal infection. The vaccination will be administered in several stages, starting with infants up to 12 months of age. About 3,5 million doses of pneumococcal vaccine have been imported. It will protect children from dangerous diseases. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

The country started vaccination against rotavirus. Production of domestic pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines is on the way, which will significantly strengthen the national vaccination programme.

Knowledge-based companies and domestic manufacturers will also produce both pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines and present them to the market soon.
