Iran sets quantum technology as national strategic priority

In light of the rapid advancements and transformative potential of quantum technology, Iran’s Vice-Presidency of Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy has made the development of this sector a strategic priority. This is reported by Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The country has taken initial steps to enter this field by fostering public awareness in universities, integrating quantum science into educational programmes, and encouraging academic publication. 

Major Iranian institutions like the University of Tehran, Sharif University of Technology, and the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences are conducting projects in quantum information, quantum materials, and optics. 

Vice-Presidency has implemented several initiatives, including funding quantum research projects through the Iran National Science Foundation, promoting university-level quantum education, launching school outreach programmes, and supporting interdisciplinary innovation hubs.

The Iranian authorities are also working to create a national quantum ecosystem by easing regulations, encouraging academia-industry collaboration, and defining clear national priorities for technological development.

The United Nations has designated 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, providing a global platform to reconsider the future role of quantum technologies.
