Kazakhstan to launch call technology without mobile network

Kazakhstan has announced the large-scale rollout of VoWiFi technology, which will enable voice calls without using mobile operator networks. Any available Wi-Fi connection will be sufficient, reports Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to Evgeny Nastradin, a representative of a Kazakh mobile operator, who spoke at a government meeting, the pilot testing was successful.

“We conducted a successful pilot among our employees, and next year the technology will become widely available,” he added.

It is noted that this innovative solution will help eliminate “white spots” – areas with no mobile signal inside residential and office buildings.

According to operators, poor indoor signal reception remains a pressing issue, caused by active urban development that blocks signals and the dismantling of old towers.

Over the past three years, more than US$2.1 billion has been allocated for the development of telecommunications in the republic. By 2027, Kazakhstan plans to provide 100 per cent internet coverage for its population.
