Kyrgyzstan advances digital transformation of geological archives
The country is converting decades of geological records into a unified digital database to improve access to research materials
Kyrgyzstan is carrying out a large-scale project to digitise its geological research archives, preserving documents accumulated since 1954 in a unified digital format. Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision Akyl Toktobayev announced the progress of the initiative, reports Akchabar, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, 36 per cent of the archived materials have already been digitised.
The country holds more than 14,000 geological documents collected over decades of subsurface exploration. These records are being transferred in stages to a single digital database, creating a comprehensive repository of geological information.
The digitisation process is expected to be completed within the next three to four years, further strengthening the preservation of geological data and expanding access to valuable research resources across the country.
