Lavrov notes close coordination between Russia and China within BRICS

He said that soon the trade turnover between Russia and China would be counted in rubles and yuan

Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov said at the press conference on the results of Russian diplomacy in 2022, that relations between Russia and China are now the beat in history.

The Minister said that Russia and China may soon abandon the use of dollars in bilateral trade. Trade turnover will be counted in national currencies. The share of Russian and Chinese trade in rubles and yuan has reached about half of the turnover. According to the politician, it will only increase.

Lavrov also highly praised the record volume of trade between Russia and China in 2022, which exceeded $190 billion. New frontiers are ahead: the Kremlin expects to reach the figure of $250 billion in the near future.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also mentioned the active and fruitful cooperation between Russia and China on international platforms. "In the international arena, we have very close coordination and in the UN, in the fight against new challenges and threats within the SCO and within the BRICS," said Lavrov.

In addition, the Minister said that Russia and the PRC are currently negotiating the criteria for new countries to join BRICS.

"Argentina has announced its interest in joining BRICS, a number of other Latin American countries also have such intentions. We are ready to cooperate at this stage through the BRICS+ format"
