BRICS members to decide on the admission of new countries by the end of the year
The BRICS group is formulating criteria for countries wishing to join the bloc. It is expected that by the end of this year members of the alliance will be able to decide on the admission of new members. This was announced by Naledi Pandor, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Africa, writes Bloomberg.
The politician said that some countries had asked the previous chairman, China, to join the bloc.
By expanding, the group can increase its influence and promote the idea of a multipolar world. The BRICS was originally conceived as a bloc of developing countries with growing economies. South Africa holds the presidency of BRICS in 2023. The union includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa."Countries are looking for like-minded partners around the world. Many nations are coming to the conclusion that the BRICS approach is one in which they would like to participate"![]()
