Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party wins India's elections

India has released the results of the general election, which the country's authorities called "the longest and largest vote in world history"

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Indian People's Party (Bharatiya Janata Party), whose leader is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, won the general parliamentary elections in India.

"I express my heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to all the workers for the dedication and tireless hard work they have done"

According to the country's Election Commission, Lok Sabha seats were distributed as follows:

  • Bharatiya Janata Party 240 seats;

  • Indian National Congress 99 seats;

  • Samajwadi Party 37 seats;

  • All India Trinamool Congress 29 seats;

  • The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam 22 seats;

  • Janata Dal (United) 12 seats;

  • Rashtriya Janata Dal 4 seats;

  • Common Man's Party 3 seats;

  • Other parties 97 seats.

India's Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar in an exclusive commentary for TV BRICS told how India might share its experience in holding elections in the organisational election process with its partners in BRICS.

"There is an institute in India for electoral training. So we have offered a scholarship to foreign institutes, election commissions, to send their staff for a two-month or three-month training programme on how the process works in India. It's the whole spectrum from replacement of electoral rules, verification, counting of votes. This is an ongoing programme that has been going on for decades and many countries in the Global South, our partner countries in development partnership programmes, have these training centres," noted the ambassador.

The general elections in India, which started on 19 April, were held in seven stages. According to the head of the Central Election Commission Rajiv Kumar, more than 642 million people, or 62 per cent of voters, took part in the elections.
