Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa
On Monday, January 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with South African leader Cyril Ramaphosa. This was announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Lavrov thanked Ramaphosa for the warm welcome he received in the administrative capital of South Africa, Pretoria.
"Thank you for giving us time in your busy schedule," the Russian foreign minister said.
He also extended Vladimir Putin's congratulations to Cyril Ramaphosa on his re-election as the President of the African National Congress (ANC).
In December 2022 the President of South Africa was re-elected to a second five-year term as the head of the ruling party of South Africa, the African National Congress (ANC).
Sergei Lavrov also mentioned the talks he had had with South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor, noting that the meeting had been held in a friendly atmosphere and "very useful".
The leaders discussed the need for reforms in the financial institutions of developing countries and preparations for the Russia-Africa summit to be held in Saint Petersburg in July 2023.
