Russian scientists have invented an inhaler that facilitates the treatment of coronavirus

The device is being tested

The Russian company PM&HM has developed and is preparing to release inhalers for the comprehensive treatment of a wide range of serious diseases, including pneumonia caused by coronavirus, the correspondent of tvbrics.com reports with reference to RIA Novosti.

The fact is that existing inhalers supply aerosol to the respiratory tract regardless of their patency and respiratory function, so 25-65% of the drug settles in the upper respiratory tract or on the intubation tube and does not get into the focus of inflammation.

The new Russian inhaler differs in that the aerosol enters the body only before the patient inhales. Due to this, the drug does not settle in the respiratory tract, and the effectiveness of treatment is significantly increased.

"Our inhalers can work with different types of drugs that are used to treat pneumonia, including those caused by COVID-19 virus – drugs that relieve bronchospasm, mucolytics for sputum discharge and antibiotics for antibacterial therapy," said Oleg Abdiev, a founder of PM&HM.

At the moment, the device is being tested for state registration, but it is already planned to equip state medical institutions with new inhalers, including under the CHI programs. Testing of the proposed solutions is planned in pilot regions based on medical institutions.

"The use of this technique is most relevant in acute respiratory distress syndrome, when a large amount of anti-inflammatory proteases and toxic oxygen metabolites are released in the lungs in response to inflammation. This leads to damage to the endothelium of the capillaries and the epithelium of the alveoli, and as a result, hypoxia occurs. Inhalation in this way allows you to increase the speed of exposure to drugs, thereby increasing the effectiveness of therapy," - said Vladimir Krasnov, Professor, Doctor of Medicine.
